Wild Birds Unlimited Bird Walk
Pine Canyon, Mt. Diablo, Walnut Creek, CA.
Leaders: Sandy and Donna
The day was sunny but cool with a slight breeze.
Temperatures at the start were in the low 60's and it
warmed up into the 70's by the end of the trip.
Many birds were out with lots of activity and we
saw a good number of species. There were many
highlights: Owl and Owlets in a nest cave at Castle
Rock, Peregrine Falcon flying over low enough for a
good look, Bullock's Orioles flashing bright yellow
just overhead, Lark Sparrows posing, preening, and
singing beautiful songs for us.
The Acorn Woodpeckers kept showing up along the
hike, as if keeping tabs and making sure we enjoyed
the day -- which we did.
